We honor and remember Douglas Patiño, the first president of Marin Community Foundation. Raised in a working-class family along the Calexico–Mexicali border, he built a career spanning community organizing, state government, higher education and philanthropy. Douglas was the first Latino individual to head a major foundation in California, and later served as board chair of Hispanics in Philanthropy. He was also a public servant as California’s Secretary of Health and Welfare and a vice chancellor in the CSU system, among other distinguished roles.
A private memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in San Francisco on Saturday, July 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. For more information from our colleagues with Hispanic in Philanthropy, please click here
