In 2025, MCF ushered in a new era for the Pirkle Jones Fund Artist Award with the establishment of a series of grants aimed at building community spirit through the arts. Four awards of $100,000 each were granted to projects that used the arts to build, inspire, and unite community in each of the following areas: Marin City, the Canal District of San Rafael, Novato, and West Marin. The winning projects brought music, film, murals, photography, and preservation of historical and cultural knowledge to these communities and shared it with participants and partners across the Bay, spreading joy, inspiration and hope.

MCF would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who participated in last year’s grant cycle. From our artist applicants, our community partners who helped spread the word, and our judging panel who selected the four winning projects, we could not have hoped for more involvement and positive spirit! We look forward to another year of honoring the legacy of Pirkle Jones.

As MCF continues to focus on our four key neighborhoods of the County and deepen our commitment to them, we have decided to use 2026 as an opportunity to partner with the residents, and those deeply rooted in these communities, to determine what art they would like to see next in their neighborhoods. MCF will be engaging in multiple forms of inquiry with a wide variety of community members. In mid-2027, MCF will inform the public of the results of our inquiries and open the artist award applications at this time. We will be searching for projects that reflect and uphold the specific type of art that each community has chosen.

MCF is excited to embark on this journey with our community members to support the arts, ensuring that they will continue to enrich, unite, and bring joy for us all.
