Financial Reporting Manager

This position is full-time and requires a minimum of two days per week onsite at MCF's Novato office.

Position Purpose:
The Financial Reporting Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting to MCF and all its supporting organizations. This involves preparation of periodic financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and interacting with external auditors and tax consultants. The Financial Reporting Manager is key to accurately reflecting the Foundation's fiscal standing and helping management make informed decisions.

The Financial Reporting Manager reports to the Controller.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain a strong understanding of the Foundation's business, flow of transactions, and various platforms that report financial data.
- Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards. Stay current on applicable accounting pronouncements and perform research on technical accounting topics as necessary.
- Oversee accounts payable process handled by Accounts Payable Specialist, including review of invoices, data entry, processing ACH and wires, check distribution for signature, mailing of checks, and resolving any invoice discrepancies or payment issues.
- Prepare monthly administrative financial reports, which includes detailed analysis of budget vs. actual per department
- Prepare monthly reconciliation for certain balance sheet accounts and ensure proper classification of restricted and unrestricted balances.
- Prepare quarterly reconciliation of special project funds for review by the project sponsor.
- Prepare quarterly financial dashboard for philanthropic advisors and leadership team.
- Assist in developing the annual operating budget. Monitor spending against budgets and provide analysis on variances.
- Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
- Responsible for preparation of customized financial reports for the Foundation's supporting organizations, including monthly and quarterly financials, budgets and transaction summaries, and maintaining strong relationships with supporting organization staff, ensuring all financial reporting needs are met.
- Act as point of contact with the Foundation's external auditors, coordinating timing and process. Prepare the annual draft consolidated financial statements of MCF and separate financial statements of each of supporting organization under audit. Assist in preparation of audit work papers.
- Serves as point of contact for external tax consulting firm. Compile reports and documents needed in preparation of all federal, state and local tax returns, including Form 990, in compliance with IRS rules.
- Monitor tax filings and state registrations. Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Assist in preparation of all financial reports for the board of directors, committees, and boards of the supporting organizations.
- Work with the Controller in developing internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for the accounting department to ensure proper safeguarding of the organization's assets, accuracy of financial records, and prevent fraud.
- Responsible for monitoring restricted grant awards received from private institutional funders. Prepare budget during application. Ensure income and expenses are properly classified. Manage grant reporting requirements and prepare deliverables as they become due.
- Complete surveys and other requested information from external parties.
- Perform additional responsibilities as delegated.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required. CPA and/or Masters preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of six years related experience in a foundation or large non-profit. Experience with $100 million, private/community foundation preferred.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in an Accounting managerial role required.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements relevant to a community foundation.
- Knowledge of financial consolidations, eliminations, and segment reporting.
- Possess a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Proven experience with process documentation of accounting procedures and internal controls in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all aspects of work.
- Proficient writing, editing and proofreading skills coupled with the ability to gather and organize information effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) and the ability to effectively learn and utilize additional technology systems used by MCF.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational and prioritization skills, efficiently managing daily tasks, multiple requests, and projects, while handling long-term assignments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in a team environment. Capable of cultivating and sustaining positive working relationships with Foundation staff, community members, elected officials, the media, colleagues in other foundations, and members of the nonprofit sector.

Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with generous health benefits (including medical, vision and dental), 403(b) retirement plan with an employer contribution of 12% (after six months of service), life and disability insurance, and generous time off and other benefits.
The salary for this position is $140,000-$150,000
