Strategy Manager

This position is full-time and requires a minimum of two days per week onsite for those residing in the Bay Area.

Position Purpose:
The Strategy Manager (SM) leads the Strategy Team in developing and implementing high-impact strategies to advance the mission and vision of the Marin Community Foundation (MCF). This role involves managing two Strategy Analysts, collaborating with the Chief Strategy Officer, and working with social sector leaders and philanthropists to address the most significant challenges in the region. The Strategy Manager is responsible for overseeing research, data analysis, and the development of concrete solutions, as well as effectively communicating findings to both the team and potential donors. This position offers the opportunity to directly influence philanthropic strategies and the communities they serve while also mentoring and developing junior team members.

The SM reports to the Chief Strategy Officer.
Essential Functions:
• Develop high-quality philanthropy strategies that meet our donors’ standards of rigor, quality, and polish.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects, driving structured problem solving and storytelling, and supporting junior staff to deliver high-quality work on time.
• Manage internal and donor team meetings effectively; present findings to senior leaders in a clear and compelling manner
• Manage and mentor two Strategy Analysts, providing guidance on research, data analysis, and project execution.
• Oversee the research and evaluation of various philanthropic strategies and opportunities, assessing their potential benefits, costs, and risks through an inclusive lens.
• Support learning across the Foundation, including by partnering with other teams to set impact measures and track progress in an inclusive fashion.
• Direct the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, ensuring rigorous quality control and the modeling of quantitative data and scenarios where applicable.
• Synthesize all findings into actionable recommendations and ensure they are communicated clearly to the MCF team, interested parties, and potential donors.
• Lead the support provided to initiative teams in the development and implementation of strategies. Current strategic initiatives include affordable housing & homelessness, building resilient communities, and various themed pooled funds.
• Develop and review concise written documents and presentations, with an emphasis on clarity and accessibility.
• Perform additional responsibilities as delegated by the Chief Strategy Officer.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in strategy consulting or similar client services-based roles.
• Demonstrated experience of 2+ years of managing or leading a team of analysts or similar roles, preferably in a client service environment.
• Proven track record of leading teams to drive impact and meaningful change.
• Expertise in quantitative and qualitative problem-solving techniques.
• Experience in monitoring, learning, and equitable evaluation of social efforts a plus.
• Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the ability to take initiative.
• Genuine interest in philanthropy, equity, and social issues including climate, housing and homelessness, and justice, with a commitment to ongoing learning and development.
• Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all aspects of work.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills coupled with the ability to gather and organize information effectively.
• Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, efficiently managing daily tasks, multiple requests, and projects, while handling long-term assignments.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills, including listening, interpersonal, oral, presentation, and written abilities for multiple and diverse audiences.
• High degree of professionalism, judgment, and flexibility, enabling effective collaboration with clients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in and lead a team environment.
• Capable of cultivating and sustaining positive working relationships with Foundation staff, community members, elected officials, the media, colleagues in other foundations, and members of the nonprofit sector.
• Strong commitment to personal and professional integrity and high ethical standards.

Compensation & Benefits:
· This is a full-time, exempt position with generous health benefits (including medical, vision and dental), 403(b) retirement plan with an employer contribution of 12%, life and disability insurance, and generous time off and other benefits.
· Salary Range: $165,000 to $175,000
· Location: This a hybrid position requiring a minimum of two days per week onsite.
