The Issue
Those who have long been subjected to chronic stressors of poverty and racial inequality are especially vulnerable to deteriorating health, economic, and environmental conditions caused by global reliance on fossil fuels. Climate mitigation strategies can address the social determinants of health if their design and implementation center racial and social equity as a core goal.
Our Approach
This one-time funding opportunity sought to uplift both recognized climate mitigation approaches and those that are more innovative. Funded projects span BFF’s four geographic areas of interest and represent an array of sectors—from food to transportation, from healthcare to workforce development—to underscore that climate action can and must be in service of a community’s interests, priorities, and needs.
