Goal: To address the health needs of low-income residents and people of color
Overview: A vibrant Marin community requires the full participation of all residents in all aspects of the life of the County. Yet the demand for basic health and social services is acute among certain vulnerable populations, and gross inequities exist in the community that affect large numbers of low-income residents and people of color. MCF is committed to a broad definition of community health, one that ensures equal opportunity and access to services for all.
Many factors contribute to the health of individuals and communities, including health insurance, income levels, and practicing healthy, preventive behaviors. Patients are more likely to have positive health outcomes if they have a medical home, are provided with language-appropriate services, have electronic medical records, and receive recommended medical screenings. Healthy environments and behaviors also influence overall health status. Adults and children who engage in physical activity, don’t smoke or engage in high-risk behaviors, and eat nutritious foods are more likely to avoid chronic conditions later in life.
Under this goal, MCF will support projects that incorporate the following strategies:
Strategy 1: Promote healthy environments, including parks, grocery stores that sell healthy foods, and safe streets; and promote healthy behaviors, such as exercising and not smoking
Strategy 2: Increase the ability of community clinics and wellness centers to deliver high-quality care
Strategy 3: Promote enrollment and retention in public insurance programs, with a focus on providing coverage for children who are ineligible for public benefits and advocating for expanded coverage
Process: Register with the Grant Application Center starting September 1, 2008, which is the Registration Open Date for this goal. This system enables you to complete and submit all application materials online.
Once you have registered, please complete and submit a Letter of Intent (LOI), even if you have received funding from MCF in the past for this kind of work.
If your LOI is approved, you will be notified how to prepare and submit a full proposal, also using the Grant Application Center.
