George Bull, III

George has been a Trustee since 2005. Before becoming chair and CEO of Redwood Trust investment company, he was a financial consultant, including service at the California Public Employees' Retirement System. He has been active with Mill Valley's school foundation, KIDDO!, and with Southern Marin Soccer. He is a graduate of University of California, Davis.

Cleveland Justis

Cleveland joined the Board in 2011. He is the Director of the Institute at the Golden Gate, part of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Previously he served as executive director of the Headlands Institute. Justis is on the boards of Net Impact and Marin County Parks and Open Space Commission. He graduated from U.C. Berkeley and has an M.B.A. from U.C. Davis.

Ann Mathieson

Ann, a Board member since 2005, has a background in marketing. She served on the Kentfield School Board for eight years and is active in various health and education issues. She was the co-founder of the San Francisco chapter of the “I Have a Dream“ Foundation. She received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.

Jay L Paxton

Jay is managing director at Buchalter Nemer and began his service on the Board in 2005. He is a board member of the Urban Land Institute, the Bay Area Council, and the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics. Jay is a trustee of the University of California Berkeley Foundation and has a B.A. from Berkeley and a law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at Berkeley.

Maria Ramos-Chertok

Maria is an organizational development consultant, trainer, and mediator who has served on the Board since 2008. She is a volunteer with WildCare and the National Audubon Society, and wrote Marin County's 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness. She has also been active in immigration issues. She is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley and University of Pennsylvania School of Law.

Robert J Reynolds

Bob joined the Board in 2008 and is currently its chair. A retired investment banker, he is active on several nonprofit and corporate boards, including Counterpart International and The Mountain Institute. He previously served on the board of Canal Alliance. Reynolds received a B.A. from Tufts University, a Masters of Law and Diplomacy from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.

Fu Schroeder

Fu, who joined the Board in 2010, is the Head of Children and Family Programs at Green Gulch Farm for the San Francisco Zen Center. She has studied there since 1976 and is an ordained Buddhist priest. Her positions have included Head Cook, Head of Practice, and Director of Green Gulch Farm. She has served on the board of the Marin Interfaith Council and was inducted into the Marin Women's Hall of Fame in 2008.

Barbara Clifton Zarate

Barbara, who joined the Board in 2010, has served children, youth, and families in Marin for almost two decades. She is Program Manager for First 5 Marin Children and Families Commission and serves on several boards, including the Marin Child Care Council and the Marin Wellness Leadership Council. She received a double B.A. from Dominican University of California and a Masters of Public Health from San Francisco State University.

Thomas Peters, Ph. D.

President and CEO

Tom has led the Foundation since 1998. He came to MCF following his seven years as Director of Health and Human Services for Marin County. Prior to that, he served for 17 years with the Department of Public Health in San Francisco, where he was Chief of Staff from 1982-1990. Tom received his undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University, his doctorate from the University of Minnesota, and for three years was a fellow of the National Institutes of Health.

Alexandra Derby

Vice President for Philanthropic Services

Alix joined MCF in 1995 as director of donor services. She has 30 years of nonprofit experience in management, fundraising, grantmaking, and marketing. She is an alumna of the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a degree in psychology, and has an MBA in marketing from Fordham University. Alix’s work with nonprofits focused primarily in the area of education.

Laura Goff

Vice President & Chief Information Officer

Laura, who oversees MCF's technology efforts, joined MCF in 2006 after 15 years with IBM. She is vice president of the board of directors of the Marin Humane Society. Laura holds a B.S. from the Haas School of Business, where she also received an M.B.A. in Marketing and Strategic Planning. She is a licensed CPA and is adjunct faculty at Dominican University of California.

Sid Hartman

Chief Financial and Operating Officer

Sid joined the Foundation in 1997 as Vice President for Finance and Administration and in 2008 assumed his current position. For the prior 11 years, Sid was Vice President, Finance and Administration at the Minneapolis Foundation. He has also held various positions, including executive director, at the Challenge Center in Wisconsin, which served developmentally disabled adults and infants. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin.

Fred Silverman

Vice President for Marketing and Communications

Fred has overseen MCF's communications efforts for ten years. Prior to that he was a consultant in philanthropy and headed Apple Computer's global philanthropy program for 11 years. Fred has also worked in public relations and as a trade journalist in Los Angeles. He is a former board member of Funders Concerned about AIDS and San Francisco AIDS Foundation. He is a graduate of Oberlin College.

Aileen Sweeney

Vice President for Finance

Aileen joined MCF in 2001. She was formerly controller at Grand Lodge F. & A.M. of California and manager of the tax division at Arthur Andersen. She received her B.S. from the University of San Francisco, received an M.S. from Golden Gate University, and has been a certified CPA since 1988.
