
Sara Barnes
Sara has been on the Board since 2002 and served two years as its chair. A professional artist, she was formerly a teacher at USF McLaren School of Business and a management consultant, and has been actively involved in arts and community development issues. She graduated from College of Wooster and received a M.S.W. from University of Maryland School of Social Work.

George Bull, III
George has been a Trustee since 2005. Before becoming chair and CEO of Redwood Trust investment company, he was a financial consultant, including service at the California Public Employees' Retirement System. He has been active with Mill Valley's school foundation, KIDDO!, and with Southern Marin Soccer. He is a graduate of University of California, Davis.

Gary T. Giacomini, Esq
Gary has served on the Board since 2003 and was its chair for two years. A partner at Hanson Bridgett law firm, he served for 24 years as a Marin County supervisor and has been active on numerous boards, commissions and nonprofit groups. He is a graduate of St. Mary's College of California and University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Ann Mathieson
Ann, currently chair of the Board and member since 2005, has a background in marketing. She served on the Kentfield School Board for eight years and has been active in numerous other educational activities. She was the co-founder of the San Francisco chapter of the “I Have a Dream“ Foundation. She received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.

Jay L. Paxton
Jay is managing director at Buchalter Nemer and began his service on the Board in 2005. He is a board member of the Urban Land Institute, the Bay Area Council, and the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics. Jay is a trustee of the University of California Berkeley Foundation and has a B.A. from Berkeley and a law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at Berkeley.

Kerry Peirson
Kerry has been a Trustee since 2006 and is active in such issues as human rights, legal issues, and affirmative action. He is the founder of Poor and Needy Advocates of Marin and has served as chair of the Marin chapter of the ACLU. He has a B.A. in journalism from Howard University.

Maria Ramos-Chertok
Maria is an organizational development consultant, trainer, and mediator who has served on the Board since 2008. She is a volunteer with WildCare and the National Audubon Society, and wrote Marin County's 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness. She has also been active in immigration issues. She is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley and University of Pennsylvania School of Law.

Robert J. Reynolds
Bob joined the Board in 2008 and is currently its vice-chair. A retired investment banker, he is active on several nonprofit and corporate boards, including Counterpart International and The Mountain Institute. He previously served on the board of Canal Alliance. Reynolds received a B.A. from Tufts University, a Masters of Law and Diplomacy from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.

Margaret Van Camp
Peg's service on the Board began in 2005. She is vice president and senior counsel at Union Bank of California and serves on the board of United Way of the Bay Area. She received her bachelor's degree from Lone Mountain College and her law degree from the University of San Francisco.

Thomas Peters, Ph. D.
President and CEO
Tom has led the Foundation since 1998. He came to MCF following his seven years as Director of Health and Human Services for Marin County. Prior to that, he served for 17 years with the Department of Public Health in San Francisco, where he was Chief of Staff from 1982-1990. Tom received his undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University, his doctorate from the University of Minnesota, and for three years was a fellow of the National Institutes of Health.

Elizabeth Brown
Vice President for Philanthropic Services
Beth oversees MCF's fund development and donor engagement activities. She formerly served as a vice president in the Philanthropic Management division at Bank of America and was Director of Public Policy at the Council on Foundations, and Vice President for Strategic Planning and Facilitation at BTW Consultants-informing change in Berkeley, CA. Beth received a B.A. from Davidson College and an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University.

Marsha E. Bonner
Vice President for Programs
Marsha has headed MCF's grants and loan programs since 1997, following leadership positions at the Aaron Diamond Foundation, Planned Parenthood of New York City, and North Star Fund. She serves on the board of the Milagro Foundation and chaired the Edward W. Hazen Foundation. Marsha received her B.A. from Princeton University and did graduate work at New School for Social Research in New York.

Laura Goff
Chief Information Officer
Laura, who oversees MCF's technology efforts, joined MCF in 2006 after 15 years with IBM. She serves on the board of directors of the Marin Humane Society, where she is also treasurer. Laura holds a B.S. from the Haas School of Business, where she also received an M.B.A. in Marketing and Strategic Planning. She is a licensed CPA and is adjunct faculty at Dominican University of California.

Sid Hartman
Chief Financial and Operating Officer
Sid joined the Foundation in 1997 as Vice President for Finance and Administration and in 2008 assumed his current position. For the prior 11 years, Sid was Vice President, Finance and Administration at the Minneapolis Foundation. He has also held various positions, including executive director, at the Challenge Center in Wisconsin, which served developmentally disabled adults and infants. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin.

Fred Silverman
Vice President for Marketing and Communications
Fred has overseen MCF's communications efforts for ten years. Prior to that he was a consultant in philanthropy and headed Apple Computer's global philanthropy program for 11 years. Fred has also worked in public relations and as a trade journalist in Los Angeles. He is a former board member of Funders Concerned about AIDS and San Francisco AIDS Foundation. He is a graduate of Oberlin College.

Aileen Sweeney
Controller
Aileen joined MCF in 2001. She was formerly controller at Grand Lodge F. & A.M. of California and manager of the tax division at Arthur Andersen. She received her B.S. from the University of San Francisco, received an M.S. from Golden Gate University, and has been a certified CPA since 1988.

Tim Wilmot, Ph. D.
Director of Research & Evaluation
Tim has been at MCF since 2008 after consulting with various nonprofits and foundations. He previously oversaw evaluation and knowledge management at the Charles & Helen Schwab Foundation and at Ernst & Young Consulting. Tim earned his B.A. from Eckerd College, where he serves as a director on its alumni association board, and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Case Western Reserve University.
